The Photography Club is a growing organization on campus dedicated to creativity, connection and visual storytelling. Led by President Samantha Smith and supported by student officers and Professor Zac Watson, the club welcomes anyone interested in photography, regardless of experience level.
We spoke with members of the Photography Club to learn more about their mission, activities and goals for the year.
Q: What is the purpose or mission of the Photography Club?
A: The mission of the Photography Club is to create a welcoming and creative space where students of all experience levels can explore photography, develop their skills and express themselves. The club focuses not only on technical aspects like camera settings and composition, but also on creativity, storytelling and personal growth through visual art. Members are encouraged to learn from one another, gain confidence in their work and connect through shared experiences.
Q: When was the club founded, and how often does it meet?
A: The Photography Club was founded in September 2025 and began holding meetings in October 2025. Meetings are typically held in person in HL 110, though some sessions are occasionally hosted online.
Q: Who is eligible to join the club?
A: Anyone is welcome to join at any point in the semester. The club is open to students and staff alike. As long as someone is interested in photography and available during meeting times, they are encouraged to attend.
Q: Who are the current members and leaders of the club?
A: The club has several regular members, with others joining periodically. Current officers include Samantha Smith, Alexandra Kosarev and Brock Lopucki, along with faculty adviser Zac Watson.
Q: What kinds of activities does the club participate in?
A: The Photography Club hosts interactive workshops, lectures and optional assignments to help members improve their skills. They also organize bi-weekly photography challenges and themed projects to inspire creativity.
One of the club’s biggest upcoming events was a charity fundraiser on April 11 on the Clinton River Trail. The event benefited Jay’s Juniors and included a bake sale along with photography activities.
Q: How does the club promote itself on campus?
A: The club promotes itself through chapel slides, campus posters, and social media—especially Instagram. More posters will begin appearing around campus regularly in the coming weeks.
Q: What are the club’s goals for this semester and the future?
A: The club hopes to become more hands-on and engaged by offering more interactive experiences and inviting guest speakers. Their goal is to continue building a creative and supportive environment where students can grow both artistically and personally.
Q: How can students join or get involved?

A: Students can join by emailing either Watson or Smith to be added to the club’s email list. Email is the club’s primary way of communicating meeting times, events and opportunities. They also promote through chapel announcements and Instagram.
The Photography Club offers students a chance to explore art, build confidence and connect with others through a shared passion for photography. Whether you’re a beginner with a phone camera or an experienced photographer with professional equipment, the club provides a welcoming space to learn, create and grow.
